I remember the first time I heard this tune, on the radio, in the early 1970s. I think I was around 11 or 12 years old. It haunted me, melodically, sonically, the refrain “I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain,” which I couldn’t stop thinking about. I wasn’t even trying to understand what it meant. I just loved the way those words sounded sung.
Doing a cover of the song has been on my mind for years. This idea, though, came to me in a burst of inspiration just a few nights ago and I laid it all down in about 3 hours. I’m sure there is more that could be done with it, but I sorta like the rawness and simplicity of just the piano, bass, percussion loops, and voice. I look forward to performing it and stretching on it with some of my talented musical colleagues in Austin. Hope you enjoy it.
LOVE this song! Can totally relate to your ‘first hearing it’ comment! Fantastic rendition- just love it! Thanks Scott👍 I like the rawness as well!
Thank you, Joy! It’s fun when these fresh takes on classic pop into our heads. I’ve got a couple more I’m working on to share soon. Hugs from Texas.
